Rules Manager is an Outlook plug-in that makes sorting your email easy. It is available for all versions of Outlook from 2000 (and includes the latest version 2007). It is in constant development to add new features, and has been available as a stable release for over two years.
The built-in Rules Wizard for Outlook has several disadvantages:
* You cannot easily apply a rule to mail from a specific domain (e.g. move all mail from cedit.biz to the CEDIT folder)
* If you move a folder, the rule fails until you manually edit it (very inconvenient if you have lots of folders and suddenly decide to reorganise, or simply move a high-level folder).
* Importing and exporting rules only works when importing and exporting from the same machine - you can't export from one machine to be imported onto another (e.g. work and home computers).
Rules Manager was written to overcome these problems. Features include:
-NEW! Organise rules into groups.
-NEW! For Outlook 2007 you can now import your existing Outlook rules into Rules Manager. This saves having to manually recreate the rules in Rules Manager - Outlook rules are then automatically disabled.
-Toolbar and menu integration to make creating rules easy.
-Quick rule feature allowing you to add a rule in about three clicks. The most common rule being to move an email to a particular folder, clicking "Create Rule" from the toolbar will open a window with the most common settings already filled in - you just need to select the folder for the rule to go to. For more sophisticated rules there is a full rules editor Similar to that built into Outlook.
-Automatic folder search - if a folder is moved, Rules Manager will locate the folder (so long as the name is the same!).
-Rename Attachments functionality. Nothing to do with mail sorting, but an additional feature is the ability to rename attachments included in a mail message.
